There are many medications for which there is no allergy skin test available and no accurate blood test. Your doctor will get a detailed history. In some cases, if the physician feels it is safe, they may recommend a drug challenge.
This involves administering the medication in the allergist’s office in a very small dose and then increasing the dose 2-3 times to reach a normal dose.
This can be the most effective way to determine if you are allergic to a drug or not. It will be up to the physician if they feel this is the right plan for you.
